All classed into being a psychoactive drug. Both being held back from their potentials all because of a similar shaped leaf, structure and smell.
However, the short answer to The Difference between Hemp and Marijuana Plant is Hemp and Marijuana are two plants in the Cannabis family and they are used for different things, Marijuana has a high THC, the psychoactive component. Hemp simply does not and is used for a lot more.
The Hemp plant was tagged and forced into the illegal, all because of the pointy green leaf, similar to its sister Marijuana. If it wasn’t done that way legal agencies wouldn’t have been able to have control of the Psychoactive cannabis, “marijuana” plant as it is widely known, used for medicinal or recreational purposes.
Or perhaps they got confused and didn’t want us to have the powers and benefits of Hemp who knows?
Why Is Hemp and Marijuana Different
As mentioned Hemp simply does not have anywhere near as much THC, Tetrahydrocannabinol, the main psychoactive compound in marijuana that gives the high sensation.
Hemp has higher concentrations of CBD and strict limits on THC, with less than 0.3% THC levels. Where Marijuana has higher levels of THC ranging from 0.4% up to 25%! An easy way to look at it is the THC levels in Hemp are SO LOW you could smoke a whole field and you still wouldn’t get high.
The term ‘Hemp’ also usually refers to the industrial/commercial use of all the plant, such as the stalk, stems, seed and flowers used for textiles, foods, papers, body care products, detergents, plastics and building materials, food Oils and CBD Oils. Wow all that! It’s incredibly versatile.
Marijuanas main use is for medicinal or recreational purposes. In other words to get ‘Stoned’ containing a large amount of THC. The growing environment for Marijuana works the best indoors, or in more controlled environments. The leaf, although similar, is actually a bit more stubby, broader and fatter at the base.

Hemp also appears to have been grown in China for over 4,500 years! Everyone knows that the Chinese know a thing or two about medicinal benefits of herbal medicine. They used it to strengthen the body and prevent illness.
Hemp in Chinese medicine is considered to be a primary herb, very important to the ancient Chinese.

Things start to go wrong when the body starts to lack in production of its own cannabinoid production and can’t keep up. That’s why CBD supplementation can come in real handy and important! It’s been taken away from us for over 100 years, so we really need it back.
Imagine the possibilities if our endocannabinoid system was better managed? The Chinese and Indians and other ancient cultures knew about it thousands of years ago and put it to practical use. Now we are only just starting to open the gates again to…
